The Transperfect Music City Bowl took place at Nissan Stadium Thursday with a record-breaking crowd of more than 69,000 fans in attendance.

The Tennessee Volunteers took on the Purdue Boilermakers in Nashville.

In 2020, the bowl game was cancelled because of the pandemic, but this year fans packed the stadium.

Several 2021 bowl games were canceled as COVID-19 cases continue to surge across the country.

“This is my first game, so I’m super excited,” says Angela Murray, a Vols fan.

Murray is a COVID-19 nurse in Tennessee.

“I know and see and personalize, so that’s why I have my mask on today,” says Murray.

While Jackie Barney is nervous because of the virus, she came to see her son, Defensive Lineman Ja’Quain Blakey, play for the last time.

“Yeah it did, but we’re masked up so we’re good,” says Barney.

While several games, like the Holiday, Arizona, and Fenway Bowl were canceled because of COVID-19, fans were excited to see this Bowl played.

“We just go with the flow. If it got canceled, it got canceled, but you know, we’re just doing everything we can to stay safe and hopefully we’ll get to see a good game,” says Deana Huffstutter, a Vols fan.

At the end of the day, lifelong fans, like Jerome Fulton, are just happy to see a game in Music City.

“It’s awesome. Anytime I get to see the big orange play, you can’t go wrong,” says Jerome Fulton.

Mitchell Fineran kicked a 39-yard field goal in overtime and Purdue finished off its best season since 2003 by overcoming a 14-point deficit and beating Tennessee 48-45 on Thursday in a record-setting Music City Bowl.
