Alex Walsh | Swimming
Nashville native and Harpeth Hall grad Alex is a first-time Olympian competing in the 200 individual medley event. On Monday night, Alex won her semifinal heat and will advance to the finals tonight (Tues., July 27).

Alex Young | Track and field
Alex β who was born in Nashville + attended La Vergne High School β will be competing in the hammer throw event in his first Olympic games.

Tyra Gittens | Track and field
Tyra became the most decorated female track athlete in Tennessee history during her time at Ensworth High School. She will compete for Trinidad and Tobago in the long jump.

Tennys Sandgren | Tennis
As fate would have it, Tennys will represent the US menβs tennis team this year. Tennys was born and raised in Gallatin + went to UTK.

Lily Williams | Track cycling
Although she hails from Tallahassee, Lily attended Vanderbilt University and competed on cross country and track teams in the mid-2010s. She is set to make her Olympic debut in track cycling.

Matthias Schwab | Golf
Matthias studied and played golf at Vanderbilt University, where he graduated in 2017. The pro golfer will represent his home country of Austria during the Olympic games.

- Vanderbilt University is set to demolish the Carmichael Towers East residence hall with a 15-minute controlled implosion at 9 a.m. on Sat., July 31. The demolition of Towers 1 and 2 will make way for a new residential college set to open in the West End neighborhood.

- Fingerprinting technology company Integrated Biometric Technology announced plans to establish new operations and locate its corporate headquarters in Franklin. The company is set to create 142 new jobs + invest $2.3 million in the new headquarters. (WKRN)

- Vanderbilt University Medical Center, one of the areaβs largest employers, said that it will require VUMC leadership to be fully vaccinated or receive an exemption by Sept. 15. The deadline for remaining employees is under consideration and will be decided at a later date. (The Tennessean)

- Creative Girls Rock plans to distribute 3,500 backpacks filled with school supplies at the nonprofit's 3rd annual Back to School Bash on Sat., Aug. 14. The group is accepting notebooks, pens, jump drives, and other items through Aug. 6. Supplies can be shipped or dropped off. π(WZTV)
