Nashville loves its meat-and-threes — aka the next best thing to a home-cooked meal.
In fact, legend has it the concept originated in Music City, with one of the earliest known meat-and-threes being Hap Townes. The restaurant at 493 Humphrey St. (now Gabby’s Burgers) closed decades ago, but the tradition lives on at these long-standing classics + new favorites: Meatloaf, mac n' cheese, and rolls — all meat-and-three staples. | Photo via @eatatmachenrys Arnold’s Country Kitchen, 605 8th Ave. S. Open since 1982, Arnold's serves up to five meats daily — roast beef always makes an appearance — as well as turnip greens, mashed potatoes, and various rotating sides. The serving line moves quickly, and we recommend grabbing a slice of chess or chocolate pie.
Bailey & Cato, 1130 Gallatin Pk. S. + 4580 Rachels Ln. Choose from one of the daily meat entrees + two sides for around $10 a plate. And in case you missed it, the restaurant opened a location at Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage last fall.
Dandgure's Classic Southern Cooking, 538 Lafayette St. Dandgure’s is said to have some of the best homemade lemonade in town, and it pairs well with specials like smothered chicken and fried catfish. Plus, this homestyle cafeteria is easy to spot thanks to a colorful mural facing Lafayette Street. Don't forget pepper sauce for your greens. | Photo via Wendell Smith's Restaurant MacHenry's Meat & Three, 581 Murfreesboro Pk. MacHenry's offers its own spin on Southern classics, including meatloaf topped with bourbon barbecue sauce, glazed carrots with maple and herbs, squash casserole, and housemade Arnold Palmer. Pro tip: Opt for the drive-thru window for easy pickup.
Osborne's Bi-Rite Corner Deli, 3116 Belmont Blvd. Locals know all about the hot bar tucked inside this neighborhood market. Stop by during lunch hours for a revolving menu of entrees, sides + desserts.
Swett's Restaurant, 2725 Clifton Ave. + Nashville International Airport From the sign out front to the plates inside, Swett’s is known for serving “fine food since 1954.” Mix and match your favorite meat, veggies, bread, and dessert.
Wendell Smith's Restaurant, 407 53rd Ave. N. Also a beloved breakfast joint, Wendell Smith’s meat-and-three menu is filled with staples such as chicken and dumplings (Tuesdays), fried chicken (Wednesdays and Saturdays), and fried catfish (Fridays).

Notice any new potholes during your morning commute?
It’s not uncommon to see new ones form after snow and ice accumulation, according the Nashville Department of Transportation. After last week's winter weather, crews will be on the roadways this week making repairs.
